about

Following up the band’s first album ‘One Batch Of Blues’, Automatic City now takes a bold step. Their sound evolves towards percussion, Caribbean rhythms, space echoed jumpin’blues. With tremolo and slide guitar vibrations, and organic grooves they keep their music rough and gritty.

Before they even started to record, the title track Bongoes and Tremoloes was found. This therefore, led the band to draw the soundscape. They came down to a musical magic melange inspired by New Orleans, rhythms and sounds coming from all other the world, from the Caribbean, South Americas and Africa, under the “Havana Moon”.

the quarter created it’s very own versions of gems from the songbooks of Willie Dixon, Billy Boy Arnold, Billy Emerson. they also cut a version of “Havana Moon” by Chuck Berry and a hypnotic version of R.L. Burnside’s “Goin’ Down South”, a cover of “Crawfish”, which was The Clash frontman Joe Strummer’s favorite Elvis song from the Kid Creole movie (1958).

For the first time, Bongoes and Tremoloes also features some original material. “Resolution Blues” is a one-man foot-stomping soulful blues recalling the style of some John Lee Hooker recordings. “Evil Eyes On Me” is partly inspired by Fred McDowell’s slide guitar works. “Puppet made of Shipwreck Wood”, and original instrumentals create a unique feel to this records.

The band uses unusual -for the genre- instruments like sanza, odd percussions, and primitive electronic devices such as the stylophone, theremin, or Rhythm Ace drum machine.
